A work in progress for Miss Newcastle

Renovating your home can be a lengthy and dirty process. Miss Newcastle, Amy Bushell, knows this all too well.

She shares a home with her brother, Paul Bushell, and they are in the process of renovating their house from top to bottom.

“We moved in four months ago,” she said. “There was no garden, no flowerbeds and the spaces needed filling.”

Together, getting along as only a brother and sister can, Amy and Paul are slowly but surely making their new house a space they can call home.

“We don’t often agree with each other’s vision of how we want something to be, but in the end we are usually happy with the end result,” laughed Amy.

Their taste in décor differs. Paul likes a room to feel busy, full and inspiring. Amy on the other hand, likes a clean and classic look. Despite the differences, they are making it work, one room and one flowerbed at a time.

“We both love the fact that the house is in the city centre, but it is still very peaceful and quiet. Even though you are home, you can still feel connected to the city,’ said Paul.

A huge oak tree dominates the back garden, casting a cool shadow in the late afternoon sun. Although very close to town, the home exudes tranquillity.

“We have a very young garden here,” said Amy. “The house and the garden are very much works in progress. I have a special treat in store for guests who come and visit our home on Saturday.”

In her capacity as Miss Newcastle, Amy will be attending the Khulisa Open Home and Gardens event, as part of her support to charities. All the proceeds from ticket sales will go towards funding early education programmes.
