The Newcastle Herb Society is not only the oldest one in South Africa, but also the longest running in the country.
In 1991 it joined the South African Herb Society and has been going strong ever since. “This is a big achievement and a proud status,” said Jeannie Hardy, a member of the society.
Every year, the members have a full programme and it’s no different this year. Excursions, speakers and workshops are already lined up, and the society members are even planning an expo. The goal of this expo is to reach more people and make them aware of the importance of health and well-being.
The Newcastle Herb Society is not only focused on natural health and wellness, but also on the environment. Members have started herb gardens at Fort Amiel and have frequent workshops on projects like making your own bacon and pastrami.
They meet every Saturday at 9.30am at the lapa of the Bowling Club, Aristotle Flats, John Parks Road. All are welcome to attend meetings. For any enquiries, contact Jeannie Hardy at 0747148783
