A revolutionary anti-poaching method was administered to the four adult White Rhino at ZuluWaters Game Reserve on Valentine’s Day.
It was extraordinary to watch as the team from the Rhino Rescue Project infused the rhino’s horns with an animal friendly, indestructible and toxic dye.
The dye turns the horn a bright pink colour inside for about four years.
This measure is called ‘horn devaluation’ because the after the procedure, the rhino’s horn becomes useless for medicinal or ornamental purposes.
Hopefully, this method will curb the number of rhinos being poached for their horns.
At the current rate of poaching, the Rhino Rescue Project estimates that the rhino population could be extinct by 2025 thus they have endeavoured to research ways of protecting our natural heritage.
The project’s team have infused more than 300 rhino’s horns in all parts of the country.
It was truly as amazing experience to be so close to these majestic creatures and watch the team execute the task.
