It’s all about healthy nutrition

Experts give 10 tips on nutrition.

Nutrition tips from the experts

1. Eat three meals a day.

2. Include starchy foods with each meal – high fibre varieties will improve your digestive health and help prevent problems such as constipation.

3. Cut down on fats, particularly saturated fats. Rather choose lean meat and fish as low fat alternatives to fatty meats. Opt for low fat dairy products, and grill, steam and oven bake instead of frying.

4. Eat more fruit and vegetables – aim for at least three to five portions a day.

5. Include more beans and lentils in your diet. Try adding them to stews, casseroles, salads and soup.

6. Aim for at least two portions of sardines, salmon and pilchards per week. The Omega 3 in these will protect again heart diseases.

7. Limit sugar and sugary foods.

8. Reduce salt in your diet: limit the amount of processed foods (which are usually high in salt) and try using herbs and spices instead.

9. Drink alcohol in moderation, and never drink on an empty stomach.

10. Avoid diabetic foods or drinks, as they can still affect your blood glucose levels. These are also costly.
