Shamira bakes up a storm
“Now I would like to have my own bakery and coffee shop, where the main thing is to relax and have a good time. I would like my business to be a health place as well, so people with diabetes can enjoy it.”
Qualifying as a pastry chef in 2013, Shamira Fakie has big aspirations for her future.
“Cooking and baking is my passion, especially baking. I find it a great de-stresser and nothing is better than seeing the end product.”
Working from home, 21-year-old Shamira said she did the occasional jobs for weddings and birthdays.
“It is exciting when you bake a cake, especially a wedding cake and you see how happy the couple is with it.”
She admitted she initially had not been certain about her decision about becoming a pastry chef, but she did not regret her decision.
“Now I would like to have my own bakery and coffee shop, where the main thing is to relax and have a good time. I would like my business to be a health place as well, so people with diabetes can enjoy it.”
Until then, Shamira said her little business was being well supported.
“I’m also giving baking classes at a school. Some of the women attending my classes are married women, which is nice, as they can take home what they have learned.”
Shamira explained she had considered a career in teaching after school, and that was her motivation to teach.
“Now I am teaching while still pursuing my passion. I would like to take it further and maybe do classes for couples, as I feel it could be therapeutic.”
