Hero crossing guard

Wow - A nameless man we can all learn from!

A school crossing guard at the pedestrian crossing outside Nikela Primary School in Steadville ‘saved the day’ on Tuesday afternoon by chasing away a white Toyota Tazz, the occupants of which appeared to be trying to lure children into the car.

The crossing guard initially noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle parked outside the school gate. He then realised the occupants of the Tazz were calling pupils over to the vehicle. It is alleged that at least two children had climbed into the car. Concerned about what was going on, he started shouting and proceeded to approach the car.

An altercation between the guard and the occupants of the car ensued and the vehicle sped away. The crossing guard had, however, managed to remove the children from the car.

One of the teachers at the school confirmed the incident and told a Ladysmith Gazette journalist that police are investigating the matter.
