Soccer vampires, what next?

Has soccer gone from a sport of skill and dexterity to one of flamboyant showmanship and the farcically bizarre?

Few moments in a soccer match can make you gasp and then feel actually repulsed at the same time… But then Uruguay soccer player Luis Suarez has a rather strange taste in meat – to be honest, it seems that tasty Italians are on the menu.

The Uruguay forward is accused of biting Italy’s Ciorgio Chiellini on the shoulder about 80 minutes into the World Cup match on Tuesday.

The score-line stood at 0-0 at the time, but his timely bite seems to have given his team a much-needed boost.

Moments later, skipper Diego Godin scored to take Uruguay into the round of 16 with a 1-0 win.

Suarez faces possible disciplinary action after FIFA announced that they would investigate. But honestly, how was he allowed to play in the first place? This is not the first time he has tried to snack on other players.

In fact, this is the third time in his career that Suarez is facing potential punishment for appearing to sink his teeth into another player. Sadly for him, this time it happened on the biggest soccer stage of all, the World Cup. No one could miss the bite and it was captured in glorious full HD and from numerous angles.

So, is Suarez a blood-sucking vampire or just an opportunistic match-changing nibbler? Do we really care and has soccer gone from a sport of skill and dexterity to one of flamboyant showmanship and the farcically bizarre?
