Hit and run suspect appears in court

The 39-year-old man faces charges of driving under the influence, culpable homicide and failing to stop at an accident scene

Wednesday – As the town, educators and pupils mourned the loss of beloved educator, wife and mother Mrs Kalai Chetty, the man accused of driving the car that killed her appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

The 39-year-old man faces charges of driving under the influence, culpable homicide and failing to stop at an accident scene. Other charges may be added.

The man was remanded into custody until July 30.
