Up and coming local rapper aims high
Local rapper, Schillo, needs your votes!

Siyabonga Miya has always been rapping. In primary school he used to learn verses from songs off by heart and rap up a storm in the school bus on the way home.
Today, he is known as Schillo. This young up and coming rapper wrote and recorded his first song in 2009. Heis currently busy recording his first full-length studio album, and is set to take the local rap scene by storm.
“I rap about everything. A lot of people say you should rap about your own life experiences, but I like to rap about things I know affect other people too,” he said.
Schillo is influenced by music on the opposite ends of the scale, from Drake, Kendrick Lamar and J Cole straight up to Paramore and Bloc Party.
“I like all sorts of music. Currently I’m working with local guys to record the album, and local guys create the melodies and beats, and I drop the verses on top,” he said.
Schillo has entered into a national competition and has made it to the final four. Peeps can listen to, download and vote for their favourite songs.

This young and ambitious rapper is local talent and innovation at its best. After matriculating in 2010 at Newcastle High School, Schillo is currently studying mechanical engineering at Majuba College.
“It’s really tough, but I have to have a good plan B,” he laughed.
