To like or not to like?

Unfortunately, facebook does not have a READ or NOTED button

It is rather interesting that a story involving a tragic accident on the N11 (leaving six people dead and four injured, some seriously) created a massive debate on our facebook page. The story reached a staggering 6000 people, according to facebook, yet only about 1600 people actually read the story.

So how does a story reach so many yet get read by less than half that number? Well, the story sparked the age-old facebook debate of whether to “Like” the story was actually liking it in the real sense or liking the post in general.

This is how we view “likes”.

By liking a post, you are letting us know that what the post contains is newsworthy. It does not mean you like the fact that six people died or that people are rioting in Roosboom.

You like the fact that we have informed you.

For us, the “Like” guides us on what you consider newsworthy.

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
