Fort Amiel will be hosting an Afrikaans cultural function on October 10, with historical talks on the role of Paul Kruger and Newcastle during the First Anglo Boer War 1880, the opening of the railway line in 1891 and his visit during the Second Anglo-Boer War in 1900.
The event will be held at the Fort Amiel Museum, Amiel Park, Newcastle. Entrance fee will be R20 for adults and R10 for school pupils. This fee will include a supper consisting of pap, wors, meat, salads and juice.
There will also be a market from 5pm to 6.30pm, where the museum will be open for all visitors in order to support various stalls which will be selling a variety of food such as pancakes, cake, cool drinks, puddings, fresh meat, biltong and more. The main event will start at 6.30pm ending at approximately 8.30pm.
The curator of Fort Amiel, Louis Eksteen, will present an illustrated talk, whereafter poem readings will follow with some traditional Afrikaans music items during supper.
