Victorian Theaters treat children for Christmas

For children, nothing can compare to opening gifts on Christmas morning, surrounded by family and festive decorations.

However, not all children will be waiting in anticipation to see what Santa Claus has brought them.

A handful of children from Morester Children’s Home, Hope In Christ Orphanage and St Anthony’s Home will be spending the festive season at their respective shelters, away from homely Christmas celebrations.

Victorian Theaters took the initiative to treat the children and show them they were not forgotten.

“I have three children and I know what Christmas means to them. These children don’t have families to go to and we wanted to do something special for them,” said Karin van der Mescht, manager of Victorian Theatres.

As a way to bring festive cheer to the children, Victorian Theatres opened its doors to Morester Children’s Home last Wednesday.

The 10 children were given the opportunity to watch a movie of their choice.

“Steve’s Photography also did a fun photo shoot with the youngsters and Jimmy’s gave the children lunch. Chinsu Chinese Restaurant donated cash to our cause,” Mrs van der Mescht said.

The children also received gifts such as toiletries and other items the homes cannot always give them, Mrs van der Mescht said.

Children from St Anthony and Hope in Christ homes will be treated in the next two weeks building up to Christmas.

“We are hoping to do something different every year for the children,” Mrs van der Mescht concluded.
