Water woes at Vryheid Hospital

VRYHEID Hospital’s dire need for water seems to be getting worse as more services have to be suspended.
According to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Miss Sibo Nkonyane, they have been struggling to keep things running smoothly at the hospital in the past few months.
“We should be receiving atleast 6 tanks of water everyday in order to keep all services running smoothly,” she said.
The hospital’s labour ward, theatre and dental ward have suffered the most during this water crises as many patients have had to be transferred to neighbouring hospitals to get assistance.
“A borehole was dug to aid the situation, but that also came with some hassles as we struggled to get the water pumped to our wards due to the hospital being situated uphill. We eventually had to by two pumps to fix this,” she said.
Ensuring that their patients have water for their food to be cooked and some to bath is also a very critical factor as they need to eat in order to take treatment, and this has proven to become a very difficult task.
As a result, the hospital also put up a water tank where they could obtain water for these basic necessities.
“With Winter on its way, I’m afraid the situation is about to get much worse. We are still appealing to all those who might be able to donate water to lend a helping hand,” the CEO concluded.
