Don’t just take our word for it – this sticky and delicious sauce will zoosh up any meat you slap onto the braai fire. It’s a must-try!
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons oil
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 medium onions, chopped
1 small fresh red chilli, chopped
4 medium ripe tomatoes
1 celery stick, chopped
1 large apple, chopped
½ cup red wine
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon coarse cooking salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon brown vinegar
METHOD:
Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add garlic, onions and chilli, and cook until the onion has softened. Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to the boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook, uncovered for about 30 minutes or until the mixture is thick. Don’t forget to stir occasionally!
Blend or process the mixture until smooth, then push through a fine sieve to remove the pulp. Pour sauce into sterilised jars and seal when it has cooled. This recipe makes about two cups.
