#FoodPornFriday: Fruity treats to beat the heat
Fruits are hydrating, filling and delicious; the perfect combination to fight off heat exhaustion.

NEWCASTLE – With temperatures soaring sky high, and energy levels reaching all time lows, we need to stay hydrated and well-fed.
Heavy meals make you lethargic, and anyway who wants to spend time in front of a scorching stove slogging over boiling pots in the heat?
Fruits are hydrating, filling and delicious; the perfect combination to fight off heat exhaustion.
So when you get a hankering for cooling goodness to fill those bellies, all you need are these five simple recipes with spruced up fruits.
Pineapple crush
All you need for this delicious dessert is a tin of crushed pineapple, 1 tin of condensed milk, 1 tin of nestlè cream, and a flake. Mix all ingredients into a bowl, sprinkle the crumbled flake, allow cooling in the fridge for approximately one hour, and enjoy!
Spicy fruit bowl
Cut up any fruit you choose and toss into a bowl, sprinkle salt and chilli powder and mix it up. Allow to cool and devour the spicy, cold crunchiness.
Smoothies
In a blender combine a fruit, milk, yogurt, sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla essence. Toss in the ice or ice cream and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into glasses and serve. The best part about this recipe is you can have any flavour of smoothie without changing the recipe.
Watermelon Popsicle
Blend cut up pieces of a watermelon until it reaches any texture you would like your popsicle to be. Pour or spoon the watermelon into a paper cup and freeze. Once it starts to freeze poke in an ice cream stick and allow to freeze until frozen. Pull the popsicle out the cup and lick your way to coolness.
Fruity slushy
Make a traditional fruit salad and chuck it into the blender with ice cubes, blend until fruit and ice combine and enjoy a fruit salad slushy. Or you could make different fruity flavoured slushies using one type of fruit.
