Another year is almost done, and now it’s time to relax.

If you find yourself in front of the television set these holidays, we’ve listed classic and modern movies certain to bring you some festive cheer.

CONTEMPORARY FLICKS

Zootopia – PG

Kicking off this list is an adorable animated flick centered on rookie police officer, Judy Hopps, and her struggles to be noticed.

Touching on a number of themes, there’s good reason this movie is highly rated.

 

 

Lion – PG13

This movie, which merges the best of Australian, American and British drama, puts Dev Patel into the role of Saroo Brierley, who attempts to find his biological family with Google Earth.

The movie was lauded for the roles played by Patel and Nicole Kidman.

 

 

The Jungle Book – PG

Based on the bestselling work by Rudyard Kipling, this movie charts the progress of the man-cub Mowgli, who is forced to flee from Shere Khan.

Expect a return of old favourites such as Bagheera and Baloo.

 

 

Finding Dory – PG

The sequel to Finding Nemo follows a similar course to the original, except this time Marlin and his son set out to find their missing friend, Dory.

Full of humour and familiar faces, this one is worth watching.

 

 

The Secret Life of Pets – PG

Ever wondered what your faithful pet gets up to when you’re not around?

This movie attempts to answer that question, and follows Jack Russell Terrier, Max, who is forced to get along with mongrel, Duke for their own survival.

Any more would be spoiling the adorable plot.

 

 

 

CLASSIC TITLES

Elf – PG

Will Ferrell stars in this comedy movie from Jon Favreau.

When one of Santa Claus’s elves discovers his true identity as a human, he embarks on a quest to New York City to find his biological parents.

Given the lead actor, you can expect a barrel of laughs.

 

 

The Santa Clause – PG

Tim Allen stars as a divorced father who accidentally kills Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, and is magically bound to deliver gifts.

Many consider this one of the true Christmas season classics, and for good reason.

 

 

Home Alone – PG

A young boy is mistakenly left behind when his family takes a Christmas holiday abroad, and has to improvise to fend off two bungling burglars.

You’ll be in stitches watching the criminals get their painful comeuppance.

 

 

How the Grinch Stole Christmas – PG

Bringing the wonderful work of Dr. Seuss to life, Jim Carrey stars as the mean old Grinch, whose mission is to ruin Christmas for the Whos of Whoville.

Instead, he is forced to confront his own feelings and actions.

 

 

Jingle All the Way – PG

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad star as two rival fathers, both desperate to get their hands on a Turbo-Man action figure for their respective sons.

Their last-minute search for the toy lands them both in hot water.
