The extravagant pageant took place in Manila, in the Philippines, where she competed against 24 beauty queens from other countries from around the globe.
“When I arrived in the Philippines on Monday (December 4), I was treated like a president. The people there are so courteous and respectful they made the trip even more awesome.”
While in awe of the friendliness of the Philippines people, Zandi said when she saw the other contestants, she was flabbergasted.
“The other contestants were beautiful and I really thought someone else from Africa should have been sent, as I did not feel I was able to compete against them.”
Yet Zandi was determined to enjoy the pageant and learn as much as possible from the culturally diverse group of contestants.
She was overwhelmed when she was crowned as Mrs World Africa in the Continental Division.
“I first thought I heard wrong, until they repeated themselves,” she laughed.
Having won Mrs Africa on November 4, Zandi was beaming with pride knowing she had won two beauty titles in the space of less than a month.
“I will be using my titles to do as much charity work as possible and empowering women and children.”
Zandi said she would not have been able to achieve so much without the support of her friends and colleagues.
“Everyone from work at the Newcastle Municipality, from my SED, to the Municipal Manager and the Mayor, supported me immensely.”
While her friends and colleagues had supported her to the end, Zandi said she owed a huge thanks to her husband and their four children.
“My husband, Sihle, our son Linda who got me started in the pageants, as well as our sons Emihle and Okuhle, and our daughter Anawo, supported me throughout the entire journey.”
She also thanked her church, the Methodist Church, for its prayers.
Congratulations to Zandi Gabela Zwane for winning the two titles, and thus putting Newcastle and South Africa on the beauty map.
