In September 2015, the area suffered a terrible drought.
The drought was blamed on the Inkanyamba, a mythical snake who lived in the Ibusi River.

The snake, who spoke through a local sangoma, complained about the pollution in the river and said that ‘she cannot eat or live there (in the river) anymore’.
The sangoma claimed that the ‘snake wants a rondavel to be its home and a veld where vegetation will be grown for it apparently by virgins and grannies.’
The question remains though, if the Inkanyamba was blamed for the drought, who do we blame for the floods?
