Dressed to the nines for the Majuba Rotary Night

SUNNY RIDGE – People were dressed to the nines for the Majuba Rotary Night at the races dinner at the Pines Wedding and Conference Centre on Friday, March 24.

The aim of the evening was to raise funds for the Mobilty=Freedom wheelchair project, which the club plans to run for the next three years.

President elect, Andrè Wagner was the MC of the evening and Rotarian, Gordon Dowsett opened in prayer before guests were treated horse race bets and a friendly game of bingo as a fun initiative in raising money.

Lee Chandler, Monique Butler and Jason Collyer were the lucky winners of the horse race bets and walked away with prizes such as a weekend getaway, a week getaway and a brand new TV.

Bingo champions were Jason Collyer and Dr F. Burnard, who won prizes such a meal voucher and printer.

Rotarian, Christo Brockmann said the evening was a big success as the club managed to raise a staggering R101 880.

“The funds raised will be used for the procurement of wheelchairs for the needy in Newcastle and surrounding areas.”

Mr Brockmann thanked the Pines Wedding and Conference Centre, Distinctive Choice, Kings Liquor Warehouse, ArcelorMittal, the Wheelchair Foundation UK, Studio Elle Photography, Dros Newcastle, and all fellow Rotarians for their help and contributions to the evening’s success.
