#ThrowBackThursday: Beauty trends from the 90’s that are still used today

Nowadays we see almost everyone wanting to drastically change the colour of their hair.

You may be wondering why we’re looking back at the 90s, but considering that era was almost 27 years ago, we thought taking a trip down memory lane would be fitting.

Some may recall trends and beauty hacks as if it were yesterday, but it has been almost 30 years!

1. Distinct lip-liner

Lip liner gives the appearance of a fuller, more defined pout. But the liner look from the ’90s — which is at least five shades darker than your chosen lipstick — seems to be making a comeback today.

2. Colour-dyed hair

Yes, we all thought Pink, the music star was crazy to dye her hair the vibrant shade of her name, until we saw how awesome it looked on her.

Nowadays, we see almost everyone wanting to drastically change the colour of their hair. As long as you don’t look like a rainbow parrot, we approve!

3. Glossy lips and glitter eye-shadow

This infamous combo of the ’90s could not be seen separately. No, it couldn’t just be any glittery eye-shadow, it had to be the brightest shade possible.

Today glitter eye shadow is almost as sparkly, but the flecks are so much finer. Not only is the look sleeker and more sophisticated, but it’s also less hazardous; you don’t have to worry about chunks of glitter falling into your eyes and scratching your corneas.

4. Spice Girl shoes

To say these sassy shoes were a must, was an understatement. They were a fashion statement, and every girl needed to have at least one pair. There was something about these shoes that gave one that kick-ass feeling like you could conquer the world. Plus, it added a few centimeters for the shorties.

5. Perms

The dreaded ‘P’ word. Some spent hours at the salon and tons of money to get that wavy look – even though they choked on the chemicals and had to deal with severe hair damage, no beauty without the pain, right?

Now, it is as easy as buying an electric curler or simply untying overnight braids.

6. Butterfly Clips

Serious time was spent debating the appropriate size and cutest colour to match our outfits. These were the perfect hair accessory to go with any and all fashionable clothing.

Are you feeling nostalgic yet? Bring back the butterfly clips!
