Newcastle star Freddy Teeka awarded for his contribution to music

LADYSMITH – For Freddy Teeka, music is more than a mere hobby. It is a passion which has led him winning an award during the recent Northern KwaZulu-Natal Artist Awards in Ladysmith.
“While I am not certain how the selection process took place, I was one of 20 nominees for an award.”
Mr Teeka’s love for music began years ago, while singing at home. His magical voice soon saw him and his family being invited to perform at functions.
“My wife, Romilla, our children and I would sing Hindi folk songs and religious devotionals at events.”
While his family supports him singing devotional songs, Mr Teeka often captivates audiences with his rendition of tunes from popular Bollywood movies.
As he has been performing at functions for several years, he is chuffed he was finally acknowledged for his contribution to local talent and music.
“I have done eight albums and will soon be releasing my ninth album, so this award was an honour,” he concluded.
