The Eastern Free State town, so popular with Northern KZN residents as a weekend-away venue, is hosting this unique event on August 5 to raise fund for critical community projects in the area.
The Klipkouer Challenge has been designed to ensure from kiddies to the most experienced off-road drivers are catered for. In so doing, entrants will get to know the secret back-roads that few have ever seen in this scenic part of the country.
Johann Lehman, of the organising committee, said the purpose of this one-day event was to challenge city and town people to ‘get you away from the mundane, paved roads of the urban jungle’.
“It is not a race but rather a challenge to let you interact with your vehicle, the road and the wild outdoors. We think you might have a little adrenaline rush,” he said.
There are separate routes for each vehicle type: 4×4 off-road vehicles, quadbikes and off-road motorcycles. There is also a special track for children on quads, bikes and buggies. The routes can be completed within 4 to 8 hours, depending on your driving/riding style.
