However, everything leading to that day is not as easy as one might think, especially in the financial department.
From wedding venues to cakes, dresses, food, and travel costs, the list goes on and on and on…
Before you know it, you are drowning in debt.

1. Calculate the costs involved:
Make a list of everything that needs to be paid. This includes the cake, the dress, the food, the venue, the invitations and everything else.
Get quotes and calculate more or less what the total cost will be.
2. Save, save and save some more:
It is of utmost importance that you start saving money.
Consider opening an additional savings account where you can save money every month.
This will also ensure you don’t spend the money on anything else.
3. DIY as much as you can:
DIY is so much cheaper than buying new stuff. Try to do as much of your decor for the wedding yourself as possible.
If you have a friend with baking skills, have them bake your wedding cake, rather than spending thousands of Rands at a store.
A big money saver is to plan your wedding yourself, rather than hiring a wedding planner.
4. Pick your wedding date wisely:
Avoid overspending on a wedding venue by picking an out-of-season wedding date.
You can also save thousands of rands by hosting your wedding at a friend or family member’s farm.
The options are endless; you just need to explore them.
5. Shop around:
When planning your wedding day, do not just settle for the first items you see.
Get quotes on everything from various places, and then compare them to one another.
This alone will save you a whole lot of money.
