Inkamana Abbey to host farewell concert for Nardini’s musical muse, Sister Edith Hassler

Literally hundreds of Vryheid children have spent time at the piano, or guitar, or numerous other musical instruments, with Sister Edith.

IT will be with great sadness that we say goodbye to Nardini Sister, Edith Hassler, on May 2 when she says a fond farewell to South Africa and returns to her native country, Germany, after almost 60 years at Nardini Convent here in Vryheid.

Literally hundreds of Vryheid children will have spent time at the piano, or guitar, or numerous other musical instruments, with Sister Edith and can say that without her inspiration they would not have been able to get the pleasure and satisfaction that they now get from being able to play an instrument.

William Silk is one such ex-pupil of Sister Edith, who has certainly taken full advantage of the love of music that Sister Edith gave him. On April 22, at 2pm in the Abbey at Inkamana, he will be bringing his Natal Midlands Youth Choir to perform a farewell concert for this well-loved Sister.

William and his choir have just returned from a very successful tour of the United Kingdom during the recent Easter period and will be performing a wide selection of musical pieces ranging from classical to popular to traditional African – in fact something for everyone’s taste.

If you would like to attend this concert and to say farewell to Sister Edith, or if you just want to listen to beautifully performed choral music, please contact Annie Silk on 083 657 9319 or Geoff Silk on 083 448 8299. Tickets are R50 per head.
