‘Runners are a special breed for sure’
"We would like to thank Landbou High School, who hosted a 5km and 10km trail run on Saturday. It was amazing to see the excellent school facilities and to run on the beautiful trails on the farm. We are looking forward to more trail runs out there in the future."
COMRADES preparations are well underway by quite a few of our athletes and this past weekend saw 30 Vryheid Athletic Club runners taking part in the Selati 4-1 marathon in Pongola.
Well done to everyone taking part in the 42,2km, 21,1km and 10km races. Results are up on the MSEM website.
On the home front, we also had a good training run around Vryheid. Thanks so much to Amanda and Ronel for the excellent water car and to all the members who do water car duty on Saturdays. VAC has such a special camaraderie.

Congratulations to Michael Tasseron who completed the iconic London marathon on Sunday in an excellent time of 3:53. Michael lives overseas but is a VAC member.

We would also like to congratulate Smuts and Lorraine’s son, Johan van der Nest, on completing the 100km Ultra Trail Drakensberg (Lesotho), beginning on Saturday and ending on Sunday morning. Johan ran 18 hours with a 30km stretch through the night in icy conditions on a self-navigating route. He was supported by Smuts and Lorraine throughout the race, who met up with him at the various checkpoints on the route where the runners would spend time refuelling on boerie rolls and soup, warming up again and undergoing compulsory medical checks before heading out again. Not for the fainthearted. Runners are a special breed for sure. Such a privilege to run!
