The area of Skukuza nestles alongside the Sabie River in the famous Kruger National Park, only 50 kilometers east of the town of Hazyview. On reaching Paul Kruger Gate, Skukuza Rest Camp is a scenic twelve kilometer drive away and is regarded to be one of the easiest camps to reach in the park, making it an attractive camp for many visitors.
But it is not only the location of Skukuza Rest Camp that makes it a popular destination choice for safari holidays. The area around the camp is known for its incredible game viewing, with animals more accustomed to the presence of vehicles than other more remote areas in the Kruger, so they aren’t easily scared off. Although the Skukuza region can become extremely busy during the peak periods of the year, it doesn’t hinder on the safari experience at all, with lions and wild dogs regularly spotted along the tar roads surrounding the camp in the early mornings.
With the camp overlooking the Sabie River, the deck area is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee or gin and tonic, whilst spotting hippos and crocodiles, and other wildlife that come down to the river for a drink. Skukuza Rest Camp is a Kruger favourite because it is highly possible to view all of the famous Big Five within the Skukuza vicinity; as well as the endangered wild dog, a group of resident warthogs, vervet monkeys, and genets who come out at night.
Activities offered at the camp include guided bush walks and game drives, golfing, an overnight wilderness trail, and a bird hide.
Being the largest camp in the Kruger, one is spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation options. There are campsites, bungalows, guest cottages, and for those seeking a little more luxury, the camp also have some luxury bungalows and guesthouses with satellite televisions, well equipped kitchens, and river views.
The facilities at Skukuza are some of the best, with a post office, bank, car hire office, restaurant, deli, grocery shop, laundromat, fuel station, garage with workshop, auditorium and conference venues, picnic area, car wash, and two swimming pools.
To avoid missing out on an opportunity to enjoy all that Skukuza Rest Camp has to offer, we always recommend that you try book well in advance as bookings for Skukuza open eleven months in advance.
