Poets unite and share their stories
Aspiring poets took the stage and kept the attendees entertained with their intellectual wizardry
“Everyone has a story to tell and awareness to raise through their music, poetry or storytelling talent,” says Silo Kunene, a rising young poet and event organiser.
Kunene spoke at a youth poetry session that was held at The Art Brew in Ladysmith on Sunday, June 16, themed “what is your story?”.
The session was made possible by Kunene herself, this being the first event she has organised in her hometown. She has previously hosted events of this nature in Pretoria.

“I collaborated with the owner of The Art Brew, Jay T, who already hosts music, art and poetry sessions like this. I felt like raising awareness of art in this town,” said Kunene.
Aspiring poets shared the stage and kept the attendees entertained with their intellectual wizardry. There were competitions and prizes to be won, in keeping with Kunene’s firm belief that talent should be rewarded. The crowd was enthusiastic and hung on every word as the wordsmiths waxed lyrical on the podium.
As an event for the youth, it was a great opportunity to “intertwine”, mingle and soak up each other’s unique vibes.
