Business owner dies after armed robbery shocks Dundee
A Dundee business owner dies after being shot during an armed robbery in the town centre.
A Dundee business owner has died after being shot during an armed robbery in the town’s central business district.
The incident took place shortly after 10am on Monday, December 22, an employee not wishing to be named told the Courier.
Robbery turns fatal
Witnesses told the Courier that two men entered the building under the pretence of buying water and walked upstairs. One of the suspects allegedly took the cash register and headed downstairs, prompting a staff member to press the panic button.
The owner responded and ran upstairs, where a scuffle reportedly broke out. During the altercation, a shot was fired.
A truck driver parked outside said he saw three men leave the building and walk towards the nearby Spar parking area.
Police and paramedics responded to the scene, but confirmed that the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards. No arrests had been made at the time of publication,
SAPS in the Umzinyathi area have been asked to comment, and this will be included once a response has been received.
The Courier extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues.
This robbery comes after a similar incident at Glencoe Pep Stores on Friday evening, during which a shot was fired. No one was injured in that incident.
SAPS have been also asked to comment on that incident but to date, there has been no response.
