Senior citizens lead prayer for safer Vryheid roads
Sbongumusa senior citizens pray against road accidents.
Sbongumusa Senior Citizens recently held a national prayer gathering, calling on churches, organisations and residents to unite in prayer against road accidents. Members assembled at Lakeside Crossing to pray for motorists and to address the growing number of accidents in Vryheid.
Community and Stakeholders Show Support
The elderly men and women arrived dressed in church attire and were joined by representatives from the South African National Taxi Council, Ambulance Services, the RTI Department and members of the community. Hymns were sung as prayers were offered for divine protection over motorists, learners transported to and from school, and all daily road users.
Families Affected by Road Accidents
Secretary of Sbongumusa Senior Citizens, Zine Mazibuko, said the gathering was motivated by the impact road accidents have had on many families.
“We are gathered here today to beg and plead with God to pour out His spirit and protection, because we are all affected by road accidents. Some of us have lost family members, relatives or friends through car accidents. Today we ask God to release His mercy and save us,” she said.
Encouragement from Scripture
Reverend Gxamza shared scripture, reading from the Book of Mark 4:35–41, which tells of Jesus calming the storm after asking His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” He encouraged those present not to live in fear, but to keep faith and look to God as their Lord and Saviour during difficult times.
Candle Lighting and Closing Prayer
A candle was lit, followed by a closing prayer for safety on the roads and protection for all motorists and travellers.
