Cable theft leaves parts of Vryheid without power

Cable theft leaves several Vryheid streets without electricity as municipal repairs begin.

Residents in several parts of Vryheid have been left without electricity after copper conductors were stolen from the municipal network.

Several streets affected

The outages are affecting Hlobane Street, West Street, Kommissie Street, Small Street, Bree Street and High Street.

The AbaQulusi Local Municipality said technicians have assessed the damage and are sourcing the materials needed to repair the affected infrastructure.

Repairs under way

Electricity is expected to be restored within approximately eight hours, although this could change depending on the extent of the damage and the progress of the repairs.

The municipality has urged residents to treat all electrical connections, appliances and installations as live during the outage, as power may be restored without warning.

Cable theft remains a growing concern

The latest incident comes amid ongoing cable theft in Vryheid, with repeated attacks on the electricity network causing frequent power outages and costly damage to municipal infrastructure.

The municipality apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience while repairs are under way.
