Rand Water refutes allegations of contaminated and poisoned water in the Vaal area as false and fake
"We urge those in possession of such viral messages to refrain from spreading them as they cause unnecessary panic and confusion," Rand Water said.

Rand Water in a media statement said it has noted voice notes that are circulating on social media platforms alleging that water in the Vaal area has been poisoned. These voice notes and messages “advise” residents to stop drinking tap water.
“Rand Water would like to assure members of the public that the water it supplies to all its customers, including Emfuleni Local Municipality is free of any contamination and complies to the South African National Standard (SANS) 241. The organisation would also like to emphasise that
its process involves abstracting, purifying, and thoroughly testing the water before it is distributed to its customers. We take pride in providing high-quality drinking water that consistently exceeds the SANS 241,” the water utility said.
“We urge those in possession of such viral messages to refrain from spreading them as they cause unnecessary panic and confusion,” Rand Water said.
