Another fuel price increase for motorists

The new fuel prices are effective from midnight.

South African motorists have enjoyed five consecutive months of fuel price decreases this year, offering significant relief to both consumers and businesses. While November brought the first increase in half a year, the latest adjustments, effective from midnight,  reflect broader market trends but are hopefully temporary.

Henry van der Merwe, Chairman of the South African Petroleum Retailers Association (SAPRA), stated, “This is only the second increase following an extended period of price stability. While not ideal, we are optimistic that the market will correct again soon, bringing relief to motorists as we move forward.”

Fuel Price Adjustments for December 2024

  • Petrol 93 ULP & LRP: 17.00 cents per litre increase in retail price
  • Petrol 95 ULP & LRP: 17.00 cents per litre increase in retail price
  • Diesel 0,05% Sulphur: 54.88 cents per litre increase in wholesale price
  • Diesel 0,005% Sulphur: 55.88 cents per litre increase in wholesale price
  • Illuminating Paraffin: 48.88 cents per litre increase in wholesale price, 66.00 cents per litre increase in the Single Maximum National Retail Price (SMNRP)
  • LPG: 172.00 cents per kilogram increase in maximum Retail Price

Van der Merwe added, “SAPRA is committed to supporting motorists and businesses during times of fluctuation and encourages careful budgeting as we approach the festive season. Fuel price adjustments reflect a complex interplay of global oil prices and currency factors, and we remain hopeful for a return to stability.”
