Hijacking on R59: Be aware

Hijackers often use blue lights to mislead motorists in pulling over.

After a recent hijacking incident at the Kliprivier four-way intersection and off-ramp, Arrive Alive warned motorists to be aware of the following:

  • Fake Blue Lights: Hijackers are using blue lights to mislead drivers into pulling over.
  • Boxing In: Suspects may use surrounding traffic or trucks to trap a vehicle so the driver cannot escape.

Safety Advice:

• Do not stop for blue lights in isolated or quiet areas.

• Put on your hazard lights and drive to the nearest police station or a busy, well-lit petrol station.

The R59 and Kliprivier off-ramps are currently high-risk areas.
