Free State town left in darkness after damaging storm

Eskom apologised to customers for the inconvenience.

Eskom this afternoon confirmed that due to the extent of the structural damage, electricity supply to the Free State town, Koppies, is likely to only be restored by Wednesday evening (October 28). Supply to Serfontein Traction Station is also affected.

The electricity outage follows a damaging storm that hit the town on Monday night.

Supply to customers on the RV, RK, RM lines and customers feeding from the Heuningspruit Rural network has since been restored through back feeding, but customers are urged to use electricity sparingly to avoid network overloading.

Eskom apologised for the inconvenience and reminded customers to treat all installations as live and dangerous.

Koppies is part of the Ngwathe Local Municipality.

  • Vredefort, which also forms part of the Ngwathe Municpality have been struggling with endless electricity problems since Sunday due to cable theft and other issues on the electricity network. Some households have been without electricity for the past two days.
