Two suspects arrested for kidnapping a 35-year-old businessman

A 24-year-old woman and 45-year-old man were arrested in Roodepoort, Gauteng over the weekend in connection with a kidnapping case that was opened in September.

According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, North West police spokesperson,  a 35-year-old Bangladeshi national, who is also a businessman, was allegedly kidnapped on Monday, 23 September.

“It is alleged that after kidnapping the victim, the suspects called his family to demand a ransom of approximately R2 million. The victim was found alive and in a healthy condition in Potchefstroom after the suspects were arrested and no ransom was paid. The suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (8 October),” Mokgwabone said.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the investigating team and other role players for their efforts to ensure suspects are arrested and the victim was found safely.
