Masters in action at FS Champs
Masters’ athletics is recognised internationally by World Athletics

On 1 October, the masters’ track and field athletes of Parys Multisport com- peted at the 2022 Free State Masters Track and Field Championships in Bloemfontein.
Five local athletes competed in this year’s provincial championships. They were Eddie Bronkhorst (M40), Reandi Bronkhorst (W30), Hardus Engelbrecht (M50), Pierre Fourie (M40), and Callie Kruger (M45).
Very high temperatures and strong winds made for less-than-ideal conditions on the track, but the athletes brought home eight well-deserved podium medals:
* Eddie Bronkhorst: 200 m (Gold) and 100 m (Bronze)
* Reandi Bronkhorst: 200 m (Silver). Reandi had to withdraw from the 100 m event due to an injury she sustained in the 200 m event.
* Hardus Engelbrecth: 1,500 m (Silver).
* Pierre Fourie: 200 m (Silver) and 100 m (Gold)
* Callie Kruger: 200 m (Gold) and 400 m (Gold).
Masters’ athletes will continue pre- paring to compete at the South African Masters’ Championships in Cape Town during May 2023.
Masters’ athletics is a division of athletics reserved for athletes aged 35 years and older. Athletes in the 30–34 year age group are also accommodated at a domestic level.
