Granny left roofless after storm

Granny Thandi urgently needs help.

Granny Thandi Tshabalala has been left roofless after the storm that hit Parys on Thursday November 7th. She has been living in her house since 1994.

Thandi, who lives alone, was at home when the storm hit at 15:30. She had to witness the roof being teared off by the strong wind.

Judith Tshabalala, Thandi’s granddaughter says her mother is now homeless and they are not sure where she will be staying for the time being.

“All of her clothes are wet; her TV and fridge have been destroyed by all the water getting in through the open roof. Her bed is completely soaked and she has no dry blankets or clothes to wear.”

Thandi says she is devastated and with the current weather conditions, she does not see how she will be able to get her things dry and restored.

According to Judith, the Department of Disaster Management have been to the house and left with promises to come back.

“The most important part now is to get the roof fixed, but my grandmother is in desperate need of dry clothing and blankets. Even the food she had in her cupboards was destroyed,” Judith continues.

The storm has left significant damage to many households and trees in the Parys-area.
