You may apply if you are physically infirm, disabled or pregnant, and cannot travel to your voting station. You will then cast a special vote at your home on 1 and 2 August. This applies to residents of retirement centres as well as flats and single houses.
If you will be out of town on 3 August you may visit your voting station on the two previous days to vote, provided you now apply for a special vote.
All registered voters may apply, but they must have a green bar-coded ID book, or a smart ID card, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate. You apply by submitting a MEC35 form to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Forum Building in Parys. Completed forms must be hand-delivered, either by the voter, or by someone on the voter’s behalf.
DA cllr Shirley Vermaak asks that voters requiring special votes apply as soon as possible, to ensure that their applications are captured on the IEC’s internet system.
She invites voters to visit the DA information table in the Palm Gate (Pick n Pay) Centre parking area in Parys this Saturday, 11 June 9-12 am. “The DA’s candidates and election helpers will be pleased to check whether voters are registered, confirm where they should vote and answer queries on special votes,” says Cllr Vermaak.
