Fezile Dabi shines at Cross Country Inter-Region Champs

With Free State Championships around the corner, this was a perfect opportunity for athletes to get together as a province, gain experience on a tough course, and prepare for the season's provincial and national championships that lie ahead.

Koedoeslaagte greeted a large crowd of athletes and spectators on June 28 for the first annual Athletics Free State Inter-Region Cross Country Running Championship.
A total of 968 athletes, representing the five districts of Athletics Free State, completed the race with a total of 22 category track records improved during the event.

Athletes who were selected from the Parys and Kroonstad leagues represented the Fezile Dabi district, formerly known as the Northern Free State. Fezile Dabi achieved 13 gold, 16 silver, and seven bronze individual category podium positions, and also won four gold, seven silver, and four bronze positions in the team competitions.

In the team competition, the first four athletes per team received a score that was equal to their individual finishing position in their race. The scores of the first four athletes per team were then totalled, and the team with the lowest score wins.

“We congratulate all athletes and their coaches who participated this year, and the sponsors, staff, and volunteers for their hard work to make this event possible.
