Hailstorm causes extensive damage in Kwakwatsi
Ngwathe's technical team is working together with Eskom to restore electricity to affected areas.

The Executive Mayor of Ngwathe Local Municipality, Cllr Victoria De Beer-Mthombeni, the MMC for Public Safety Cllr. Moloi, MMC for Special Programmes Cllr D. Masooane, Cllr M. Motsoeneng and the administrative team led by the Municipal Manager Dr F.P Mothamaha as well as the Public Safety, Disaster Management team joined by members of Ward Committees, acted swiftly visiting areas affected by a hailstorm in Kwakwatsi, to conduct assessments.


These assessments are aimed at determining the extent and severity of the damage and identifying possible relief measures for the affected communities, the municipality said.

The hailstorm affected Ward 16 and Ward 17 in Kwakwatsi in the early hours of today at approximately 03:45 in the morning and caused damage to the area, including roofs being blown off, and some houses and windows being broken. This has also caused serious damage to electricity infrastructure.
The Municipality will mobilize relevant external stakeholders such as Provincial and National Governments and further updates will be provided once the assessment process has been completed, the Municipality said.


The municipal technical team is working together with Eskom to restore electricity supply. Residents are requested not to fiddle with electricity apparatus as this could be dangerous.
