IEC confirms registration weekends

The date for the Local Government Election has not been announced as yet.

The Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed the dates for voter registration weekends for the upcoming Local Government Elections, although the election date still has to be confirmed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

There will be two registration weekends on the following dates:

 June 27 & 28

July 25 & 26

How to register online

* Go to registertovote.elections.org.za

* Enter your name and surname and contact details

* Capture your address details

* Upload a photo or file of your valid SA ID – green ID book, smart ID or temporary ID, and make sure the barcode is clearly visible

* Insert the One Time Pin (OTP) sent to you; and

* Receive a notification that you are registered to vote within 24 hours.

How to check if you are registered

* Go to the IEC website www.elections.org.za and follow the link.

* SMS ID number tot 32810.

* Toll-free phone call from a landline to a call centre (0800 11 8000) – only available during election periods.

* IEC application on smart phone.

* Voting station during the Voter Registration Weekend.

* Local IEC office from Monday to Friday during office hours.
