National Breastfeeding Week was celebrated at Parys Clinic last week, emphasizing the advantages of breastfeeding for both mother and baby.
Mothers were encouraged to breastfeed their babies exclusively for at least six months, as breastfeeding promotes a strong emotional bond between mother and baby.

Breastfeeding can protect the baby from infection and diseases. Breastmilk contains all nutrients the baby needs, and is always available when needed, compared to formula milk that needs to be prepared. Breastmilk is also easy digestable. Mothers were shown the best positions for breastfeeding.

The speakers were Manager Sister M Makgoe, Sister Mekgwe, Sister Mahasane, Sister Mokena and Community Service Dietitian, Hesna Theron.
