Major traffic delays following N1 accident

Clearing of the accident scene will take time. Please plan ahead and take note of alternative routes to be used.

Expect major traffic delays following two accidents on the N1 between Kroonvaal Plaza and Kroonvaal One Stop earlier today. This resulted in closure of the N1 between Koppies and Kroonvaal Plaza.

The road will remain close until the scene is cleared which will take time.

Alternative routes

  • Traffic is diverted on the R59 via Parys and Vredefort with the N1 closed between Kroonvaal Plaza and Kroonvaal Engen One Stop.

Accident update

The initial incident involved a collision between two light motor vehicles. Occupants of both vehicles were already out of the vehicles when a secondary accident happened involving two trucks. Two fatalities were reported while one of the truck drivers sustained severe burn injuries

The accident scene

Emergency response teams acted swiftly and are currently still on the scene. These include Municipal and Provincial Traffic Services, Fire and Rescue Services, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and Road Incident Management Services (RIMS), all working collaboratively to manage the situation and ensure safety.
