It has been a challenging few months for the Parys SPCA after devastating losses as a result of a robbery on the SPCA’s premises in the early hours of April 19. Among the losses suffered was the society’s only vehicle.

But despite the devastating setback, amazing support was received from the community and fellow Societies to ensure that the SPCA’s doors remain open.

Whenever there was need, the community responded, despite the hardships people are facing themselves. The SPCA committee expressed its heartfelt gratitude, saying that every donation and act of kindness has made a meaningful difference.

“Whether it was financial contributions to the BackaBuddy bakkie campaign, donations of pet food, cat litter, blankets, bedding, cleaning products and other essential supplies delivered to the SPCA, equipment that helped the organisation recover from the robbery and strengthen security for the future, or payments made directly into the SPCA’s veterinary account – every contribution has been invaluable.”

“The list is endless – just like the generosity you have shown,” the committee said.

The committee also thanked everyone who supported the SPCA’s fundraising initiatives, including the golf day through sponsorships and prize donations, as well as those who participated in fun runs, walks and market stalls.

Special appreciation was extended to the businesses that donated a portion of their sales or collected contributions from their customers and employees, helping to ensure the SPCA can continue caring for animals in need. Parys is a special place, and its animals deserve a functioning SPCA. Let’s continue working together to keep the doors open.

The past week, the SPCA received a donation of 42 wool blankets from Aranda Textile Mills in Randfontein, after resident Anneke de Pierres reached out to the company telling them about the devastating robbery at the SPCA in April. This donation will ensure that animals in the SPCA’s care can be kept warm and comfortable, especially during the cold winter months.
