What to look out for when buying a suitcase

Travelling with the wrong type of suitcase can cause unnecessary stress and take the fun out of flying to your destination.

Stuffing your bag to the brim and fearing it might burst at the seams or lugging around a suitcase that is big and bulky is not the way to go when you are travelling.

Follow these three tips to help you invest in the right suitcase to make sure you are covered for any travelling occasion, be it work or play:

  1. Go as light as possible

The lighter your suitcase, the more you can pack! Starting with a lightweight, empty suitcase means you get the most out of the airline’s luggage weight limit. Depending on the size of the suitcase, you can save up to 5kgs in weight just by choosing a lightweight option. Not only will you be able to pack more, but you also don’t need to schlepp so much and do such heavy lifting in and out of the car and around the airport.

  1. Safety first

Arriving at your destination only to find your suitcase has been opened up and your valuables are missing is no way to start a holiday. Look for a suitcase with a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved combination lock. The clever design can be opened without damaging the lock thanks to a special key used by security checkpoints in most European and American airports.

  1. Easy wheels

Make moving around with your suitcase easy and flexibly by opting for four wheels or “spinners” so that you don’t have to tilt your suitcase in order to get rolling. The four-wheel option is also often more durable, as the weight is distributed evenly, instead of lying on two wheels at an angle.
