Last Friday, the Ikageng SAPS embarked on a ‘back to basics’ high-density operation and managed to confiscate 202 litres of liquor and dagga weighing 42 grammes.

The station commander, Col Jaco Brazer also joined in and led the operation to fight crime.
Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom says SAPS members, Sgt Diphoko and Const. Mosiane and their fellow members also managed to apprehend a 53-year-old man who confessed to selling dagga.
Trom says they noticed the irregular movements of children in school uniform around a shack while they were patrolling around Sonderwater at about 14:30. They went to investigate and found a group of men playing a game of cards. One of the men became uneasy and Diphoko asked who the lawful owner of the shack was. The 53-year-old man admitted that he was the owner and also admitted, on the spot, that he sells dagga.
The police officials asked for permission to search the premises but, before they had begun, the owner voluntarily handed them a small plastic bag of dagga. He also admitted that the R6 000 in cash found on the premises was from the dagga sales.

According to Trom, the members called for back-up, after which a thorough search was conducted both inside and outside the shack. Capt. Koena found three packets of dagga hidden under rocks in the yard.
“The police explained to him that selling dagga was illegal. The suspect was arrested on the spot,” Trom said.
