Earlier today (4 March), at least 17 children were taken to hospital after a taxi and truck collided on the N12 in the direction of Johannesburg, about 10 km from Potchefstroom.
Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson, says that 21 patients were injured after the accident.
According to her, upon the ER24 paramedics’ arrival at the scene just after 07:30, they found most of the patients outside the taxi. “Four children were found entrapped in the taxi and the truck driver was also entrapped in his truck. The fire department had to extricate all of them using the jaws of life.”
After they assessed the patients, they found that at least two people sustained severe injuries, and 19 people had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Ineke confirms that the ER24 and other medical services were at the scene and transported those injured, to the hospitals for further medical attention.
