Two film buffs start a brand new production company

A brand-new production company, Conejito Productions, opened its doors in August when Alonso Grandio and his wife, Monique (born Oberholzer) decided it was time to settle in Potchefstroom. They met in Los Angeles, where they studied acting together and completed an Associate in Fine Arts at the New York Film Academy.

In Los Angeles, Alonso pursued his acting career, starting with minor roles in a few big-budget Hollywood productions like “Fast and Furious 7” and a Hollywood Netflix production, “The last day of American Crime”. After he and Monique got married, they decided to settle in South Africa, where he played in various television productions. His first major television role was that of Mark Perez, a Spanish sound engineer for the multi-award-winning e.tv daily soapie, Rhythm City.

But, before Alonso pursued an acting career, he also completed a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and cinematography at the University Anáhuac in México.

“I also want to focus on my career as a producer. I enjoy combining the different artistic disciplines that producing requires”, says Alonso. While Monique is focusing on writing and directing, Alonso focuses mainly on filming and editing.

“You don’t need a big budget to do a great short film,” says Alonso. They produce audiovisual training material, social media advertisements, music videos, short- and feature films, wedding films (starring you and your partner) and much more.

“We want to offer the same or better quality than big production houses offer, at a much better price. We offer different packages, starting from R3,000. It all depends on the length of the film, the work behind it and the equipment needed.”
