The Thakaneng Child and Youth Care Centre had a motivational Fun Day on Saturday, 24 September, organised by Refilwe Motloung and her NPO, Dikgosatsana Foundation. According to Motloung, the celebration aimed to make the day about the children. “We want to continue putting smiles on children’s faces and touching their lives,” she said.
Motloung was able to achieve her goals, thanks to sponsors who came just in time. Just three days before the event, the NPO was still short of many supplies, prompting them to approach the Herald for assistance. To Refilwe’s surprise, her phone rang non-stop and donations came flooding in. “A big thank you to everyone who helped. We had more than enough to give the children. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly grateful,” she said.
The programme for the day included special guests to motivate the kids and talk to them about topics like bullying. The event started at 9:00 and was divided into three parts, namely exercises, formal presentations and entertainment. “We do this to take part in building a healthier, more vibrant community,” Motloung added. The event lasted the entire day because the children had so much fun. Refilwe wishes to thank all the sponsors for the event. For now, she plans another celebration to give back to children in need on 16 December.
