Power shutdown scheduled this afternoon

The interruption will allow technicians to reconnect and energise the second transformer at the Potchefstroom Substation. The transformer had previously been in for repairs.

The JB Marks Local Municipality has announced a scheduled 90-minute power interruption across the entire Greater Potchefstroom area on Friday, October 30, from 14:00 to 15:30.

The interruption will allow technicians to reconnect and energise the second transformer at the Potchefstroom Substation (Potch DS), following the completion of repairs.

“Bringing the second transformer back will increase the substation’s capacity and provide an additional level of backup in the event of a transformer failure. The additional transformer will increase the substation’s capacity,” added JB Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

Residents and businesses are urged to treat all electrical installations as live during the shutdown, as power may be restored without prior notice.

“The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience this interruption may cause and appreciates the community’s patience. The work will strengthen the reliability and sustainability of electricity supply to the Greater Potchefstroom area in the coming month,” explained Tshite.
